Rules & information

Everything is run in accordance with the R&A Rules of Golf and Rules of Amateur Status, together with the local rules of the host club. The short version: play fair, mark your card properly, and enjoy yourself.

Who can play

  • Members only; joining is free and takes a minute
  • You must belong to an England Golf affiliated club with an active WHS handicap
  • Maximum handicap for all competitions is 24
  • Mixed teams of gentlemen and ladies are welcome at every event

Handicaps

  • Players receive an 85% handicap allowance
  • Each competition has a cut-off date for submitting current WHS handicaps
  • Changes between the cut-off and the event are not taken into account
  • No handicap submitted by the cut-off means you play off scratch

Formats and scoring

  • Pairs: best net Stableford score counts on each hole
  • Am-Am: best two net Stableford scores count on each hole
  • If a team loses a player before the start, the team is awarded a pro-score of 2 points per hole
  • Distance-measuring devices are allowed if they conform to the Rules of Golf

On the day

  • Prices include green fee, breakfast, competition entry and the two's pool
  • Pay on the day by cash or bank transfer
  • Weekly prizes for the top teams, nearest the pin and two's, plus the Order of Merit
  • Turn up for whatever you have booked; members who book and do not show may be asked to leave the society
